@beyond.naija: Oba Adesoji Aderemi, the 49th Ooni of Ife, ruled from 1930 to 1980. He was the first literate Ooni, and later became the first African Governor of Western Nigeria. He pushed for education, helped bring the University of Ife to Ile-Ife, and served as Governor of Western Nigeria from 1960 to 1962. In 1949, he visited the Tower of London with his chiefs, his daughter, and Yoruba companions, including Ladoke Akintola, who later became Premier of Western Nigeria. A traditional king, a nationalist, and a builder, all in one life. 📚 Sources: Wikipedia (Adesoji Aderemi), ThisDay (5 July 2020, "Oba Adesoji Aderemi: The Legendary Governor-King"), The Guardian Nigeria ("Rare gems: Ooni Aderemi and Sijuwade"), Channels TV (2020 tribute) #BeyondNaija #NigerianHistory #OoniOfIfe #AdesojiAderemi #IleIfe #Yoruba #YorubaHistory #YorubaCulture #OduduwaLand #WesternNigeria #LadokeAkintola #UniversityOfIfe #OAU #AfricanHistory #AfricanKings #NigerianHeritage #HistoryOfNigeria #RoyalHistory #Throwback #1949 #HistoryReels #DidYouKnow
