When my kids asked why am I also scrolling I told them I have already achieved what I want in life that’s their turn to put effort in their studies so they can also achieve great things until then they don’t have right scrolling 😂 i am not going to stop scrolling because I don’t want my kids to scroll.

One major issue is that social media and many games weaponize behavioral science, much of which was developed by the machine gaming and casino industry to make the platforms as addictive as possible. They do not encourage deep reading. That is actually counter to the goal of the attention market. The goal is to at the most require surface level reading, engaging only System 1 thinking processes to maintain a flow state for quick response interactions. That is one reason why in the U.S., despite much social media usage, approximately 54% of the country is only able to read at about a 12 year old level, incapable of reading critically. You combine this with the reality that smart phones are effectively a requirement for everyday living and it is extremely difficult to break away from it. Until much tighter regulation is forced upon social media and gaming, it is practically the same (from a neurological standpoint) as telling an addict that they have to keep a pack of their drug of choice in their pocket and not be addicted to it.
