My daughter is a junior in college and a terrific kid - my deal with her from the time she could really understand has been: you can either choose to do what I ask you to do or be forced to do what I tell you to do. Same outcome - two very different experiences. My end of the bargain was i don't have a laundry list of petty "asks" - unlike her mother. Divorced when she was five. My daughter and I have a very solid relationship.
