@hackswithbanks4: 🌐 CCNA DAY 1 — WHAT IS A NETWORK SWITCH? If you're learning networking or cybersecurity, you need to understand the device that connects many devices inside a local network: the SWITCH. 🔹 WHAT IS A SWITCH? A network switch connects devices such as: 💻 Computers 🖨️ Printers 📡 Access Points 🖥️ Servers 📷 IP Cameras inside a LAN (Local Area Network). A simple network can look like: 💻 PC 1 ─┐ 💻 PC 2 ─┤ 💻 PC 3 ─┤→ 🔀 SWITCH → 📡 ROUTER → 🌐 INTERNET 🖨️ Printer ─┘ 🔹 HOW DOES A SWITCH KNOW WHERE TO SEND DATA? Switches use MAC addresses to identify devices. When a device sends an Ethernet frame, the switch learns which MAC address is connected to which port and builds a MAC address table. For example: MAC Address → Switch Port Device A → Port 1 Device B → Port 2 Device C → Port 3 When the switch knows the destination, it can forward the frame toward the correct port instead of sending it everywhere. 🔹 SWITCH vs ROUTER 🔀 SWITCH Connects devices within a network. 📡 ROUTER Connects different networks and can route traffic between them. Think of it like: Switch = connects devices 🏢 Router = connects networks 🌐 🔹 WHAT ABOUT VLANs? A switch can also separate a network into logical sections using VLANs. For example: VLAN 10 → Staff VLAN 20 → Guests VLAN 30 → Servers This can improve organization and, when properly configured with routing and access controls, help with network segmentation. 🛡️ WHY SHOULD CYBERSECURITY STUDENTS CARE? Understanding switches helps you understand: • MAC addresses • Ethernet frames • VLANs • Network segmentation • ARP • Broadcast traffic • Network monitoring • Switch security 🎯 THE BIG LESSON Before learning how to attack or defend networks, understand how the network actually works. Learn the fundamentals first. The security concepts become much easier afterward. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: Educational purposes only. Practice networking and security techniques only on networks and devices you own or have explicit authorization to test. 🔐 HACKWITHBANKS — Learn • Build • Test • Defend. #Hackwithbanks #CCNA #Networking #NetworkSwitch #Cisco
