Cumberland River 15.01.2026 Convinced our family to come camping at our favourite spot down the Great Ocean Road and not even 24hr in the flash flood hits…. Here’s a glimpse from inside and some of what we saw 🏕️ I also had 3 kids with me under 10 which were my main priority so there’s lots of craziness I didn’t film. The campground we were staying at is off grid and there is no reception so we had no idea what was coming, the weather warnings and had no way of contacting out when it was going on. I was chilling in our camper trailer with our 1yr old who was napping when our family started running down from the campsite behind and yelling at me to get the baby out as the water was rising. The 2 first clips of water coming up and then half way up our tent were 3minutes apart. I cannot explain how fast the water rose and how quickly it took cars, tents, caravans and anything in its path. We were so lucky we got our car out just in time (the last one out). Our poor old camper trailer is gone but we were lucky to grab some of our things from inside. It is a miracle that no one was hurt and everyone was ok where we were. So many people came together to help each other and save some belongings. We had random people helping me grab things out of our tent. Honestly so grateful for our safety and the amazing work of the Cumberland River Staff who did everything they could to ensure the safety and care of everyone there. Once the river went down a little and rescue workers were able to get in we all had to grab essentials and evacuate on foot leaving everything behind. The incredible Lorne community really came together to look after everyone displaced from multiple campgrounds where flash floods hit. We are now back at our house waiting to be able to get back into the campsite and get our cars, caravans and any belongings left. 10 of us are staying in our humble 2 bedroom home 🫶 we still catch ourselves thinking did that really just happen. A camping trip we will never forget.
