@numb_nut644193: #snakeeatingitself #snake #ouroboros #zachdfilms #symbol The ancient symbol of a snake eating its own tail is called the Ouroboros (pronounced yoo-ruh-bawr-uhs). Originating in ancient Egypt and later adopted by Greek philosophers, alchemists, and Norse mythologists, it represents the concept of eternity, infinity, and the endless cycle of life, death, and rebirth. 🌍 Historical Meaning & Origins • Ancient Egypt: The earliest known depiction of the Ouroboros was found in the Tomb of King Tutankhamun (14th century BCE). It symbolized the journey of Ra (the sun god) through the underworld and his daily rebirth. • Greek Philosophy: The word comes from the Greek oura (tail) and boros (eating). Philosophers used it to explain a self-sustaining universe that consumes its own energy to regenerate. • Alchemy: In medieval alchemy, the symbol represented the unity of all matter and the cyclical refinement process needed to create the Philosopher's Stone. • Norse Mythology: It appears as Jörmungandr, the giant Midgard Serpent who grew so large he encircled the entire earth and bit his own tail.
