Extremely Fine, Thin And Oily Hair? Sometimes Cutting It Short Is The Best Decision! ✂️❤️ One of the biggest mistakes I see with extremely fine, low-density hair is people desperately trying to keep it long when there’s hardly any hair left at the ends. The hair is super fine, the scalp gets oily very quickly, the roots sit completely flat and the ends look like a few wispy strands hanging down. And the longer you keep it, the flatter and thinner the whole hairstyle can appear. Sometimes the solution isn’t another treatment, another volumizing product or another styling technique. Sometimes you simply need to be brave and cut it really short! 1️⃣ First, Understand What You’re Dealing With 🔍 There are two things we need to look at: 🔸 Hair Density: How many individual hairs are growing from your scalp. 🔸 Hair Thickness: How fine or thick each individual strand is. When you have extremely low density combined with very fine strands, there simply isn’t enough hair to create a full-looking, long hairstyle. Add an oily scalp, and the hair starts sticking together, making the scalp more visible and the entire hairstyle look even flatter. 2️⃣ Stop Holding Onto Those Wispy Ends ✂️ This is where I see people making the biggest mistake. They keep holding onto the length because they’re afraid short hair will make them look like they have even less hair. But think about it logically. If your hair is already extremely thin, transparent and hanging in a few separated strands, what exactly are you trying to save? Sometimes keeping those extra centimeters only makes the lack of density more obvious. Removing them can immediately create a much stronger, fuller-looking shape. 3️⃣ Go Short, Really Short! 💇‍♀️ For this type of hair, I often recommend a very short haircut, sometimes even above the ears. Why? Because instead of trying to make a few fine strands look long and full, we create a shape that works with the amount of hair you actually have. The goal is to: ✅ Remove the long, wispy ends. ✅ Build a haircut that can be worn messy rather than flat. 4️⃣ The Messier, The Better! 🔥 This is where the haircut becomes interesting. With extremely fine, low-density hair, I don’t want everything lying perfectly flat against the scalp. I want movement! I want the top to look messy, airy and lifted. I want the back to have texture and a slightly undone finish. Not a perfectly polished hairstyle where every fine strand is sitting neatly against the head. Sometimes a deliberately messy, short haircut can create the illusion of much more volume than long, perfectly brushed hair ever could. Of course, the texture needs to be created carefully without removing unnecessary weight. 5️⃣ The Oily Scalp Needs Attention Too 🫧 When your hair is extremely fine, even a small amount of scalp oil can make the strands stick together. And when they separate into little groups, the scalp becomes much more visible. That’s why regular washing with a suitable shampoo is important. Don’t be afraid to wash your hair frequently if your scalp needs it. The cleaner and lighter the roots feel, the easier it usually becomes to create volume. 6️⃣ The Most Important Thing To Understand ❤️ A haircut cannot magically increase the number of hairs growing from your scalp or make every individual strand thicker. But the right haircut can completely change how your existing hair looks. And that’s exactly what we’re trying to achieve. Instead of fighting for length that makes the hair look even thinner, we work with the density you actually have. Sometimes that means compromising on the length you’ve always wanted. But the reward is a haircut that looks fuller, moves better, feels lighter and is much easier to style. After more than 28 years of working with different hair textures and densities, one thing I’ve learned is that sometimes the best transformation comes from accepting what your hair can realistically do. Stop fighting to keep hair long when the length is working against you. Sometimes going super short is exactly what m
