@hitchlife: Before you accept ANY offshore job offer, ask these 5 questions first. 🚨🌊 I've been out here for a year now, and trust me — accepting the first offer you get without asking the right questions can come back to bite you. So let's get into it. Question number one: What's actually included? Is accommodation covered? What about food? Flights or transportation to and from the installation? Don't assume anything is free just because it's an offshore job. Ask the recruiter exactly what's included and get it in writing. Question number two: What's the actual roster? Mine runs two weeks on and two weeks off, but offshore rotations can vary significantly depending on the company, installation, and role. Don't just ask how long the hitch is. Ask exactly when you're expected to leave home, when your rotation starts, and when you're expected back. Question number three: Is there a probation period? Find out how long it lasts, what happens during probation, and what happens if either you or the company decides the job isn't working out. You want to know this before you leave home and commit to the position. Question number four: What certifications do I need? Ask which safety courses, medicals, licenses, and role-specific certifications are required before you can actually start. And here's an important one: Does the company pay for any of them? Because those courses can add up quickly. Question number five: How exactly is the pay calculated? Don't just look at the hourly rate. Ask about overtime, bonuses, allowances, travel days, holiday pay, deductions, and exactly how your rotation is paid. For example, if someone earns $60 an hour and works 12 hours a day for 14 days, that's $10,080 gross before overtime, bonuses, taxes, or deductions. But remember — $60 an hour isn't a universal offshore starting rate. Your actual pay depends on the role, employer, location, experience, and contract. And while accommodation and meals are commonly provided while you're onboard, travel arrangements and other benefits can vary. So whether you're male or female, these are the questions you should be asking before you sign anything. Which one of these five questions would you ask first? Comment “OFFSHORE” if you're looking to get into the industry.
