Thomas Martin was jailed after carrying out a predatory digital campaign against schoolgirls, using the social media application Snapchat to solicit indecent images before subjecting his young victims to a malicious campaign of blackmail. SNAPCHAT GROOMING, EXPLOITATION, AND SEXTORTION An investigation by Hampshire Constabulary established that Thomas Martin operated a Snapchat profile specifically to target and exploit schoolchildren between May and October 2019. Once Thomas Martin successfully manipulated the girls into sending private images, he weaponized the material to initiate a calculated campaign of sextortion. The prosecution reported that Thomas Martin aggressively pressured two young girls into transmitting further explicit files by threatening to publish their existing private photographs across mass public platforms, including Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Following his arrest, cyber-crime investigators recovered the illicit media from his hardware. Thomas Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of blackmail, disclosing private sexual photographs with intent to cause distress, and three counts of making indecent photographs of children. On 15 October 2021, the judge at Winchester Crown Court removed Thomas Martin from the community, sentencing him to two years in immediate custody. The court further implemented a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
