@tedros.adhanom.21: 2021 was a year of great hardship but was also one of great hope when the world came together to develop vaccines & other tools to protect people from #COVID19, says @DrTedros, urging to use lessons learned in 2021 to end the pandemic in 2022.

Why Your Eyelid Bump Won’t Go Away ? Chalazion ? A chalazion is a common, non-infectious lump that develops within the upper or lower eyelid. Unlike a stye—which is an acute, painful bacterial infection at the base of an eyelash—a chalazion forms deeper inside the eyelid tissue due to a blocked Meibomian gland. Your eyelids contain vertical rows of Meibomian glands that produce an oily secretion essential for keeping tears from evaporating too quickly. When a gland duct becomes clogged by thickened oil or dead skin cells, the produced lipid accumulates. Over time, this trapped oil leaks into the surrounding tarsal plate, triggering a localized inflammatory reaction (lipogranuloma) that feels like a firm, non-tender nodule In the early stages, conservative management is usually effective: Warm Compresses: Applying a warm, damp cloth for 5–10 minutes, 3 to 4 times daily, helps melt the solidified oil plug. Gentle Lid Massage: Massaging the eyelid toward the lash margin encourages the melted oil to drain through the natural duct opening. If a chalazion persists for several weeks without resolving, a minor, office-based surgical procedure called Incision and Curettage (I&C) is performed: 1. Local Anesthesia & Clamping: The eyelid is numbed, and a specialized clamp is placed to isolate the swelling and minimize bleeding. 2. Transconjunctival Incision: The eyelid is everted, and a small vertical incision is made on the inside surface (conjunctiva) through the tarsal plate. Vertical cuts prevent damage to neighboring glands, and operating from the inside leaves no visible scars on the outer skin. 3. Curettage: A micro-curette scoops out the trapped lipogranulomatous tissue, fully clearing the cavity. 4. Natural Healing: The incision closes naturally within a few days without requiring external sutures. #BioMotion3D #chalazion #creatorsearchinsights
