His dad must have been a 60-gunner. Rooster was the nickname given to a 60-gunner because the flash from the barrel looked like a rooster tail. The 60-gunner was the enemies first target in battle. I know this because my dad was a 60-gunner in Vietnam.

I think this is mostly true but the interviews I've read through the years his dad got the name because his hair stood straight up and his Grandpa gave him the nickname rooster because he look like a rooster because of his hair so you guys can look it up if you want

I dont care what you say, thats some tear jerkin’ badassery. I learned what the line “army green is no safe bet”. When i listened to this song after talking to my Vietnam vet best friend (im 43). He told me he was running watch on a trail and a guy came walking through the jungle with a green poncho. It wasnt till he walked past and raised his head they realized they were enemies. Both anxiously paused, reached close to their weapons, then parted ways peacefully. He said their ponchos were slightly different colors, so when you were wearing them, you could not tell the difference to the rain.
