@beadifficultemployee: Retaliation doesn’t always look like getting fired. Sometimes it’s a series of smaller changes that don’t look like much individually, until you document them and see the pattern. That’s one of the reasons I wrote my guide, What HR Won’t Tell You. I took what I’ve learned from 15+ years inside HR and broke down retaliation, employment laws, documentation, PIPs, navigating HR, plus scripts and templates you can actually use. I’m on a pip and they’ve been harassing me, targeting, bullying me every single day I go in. They want me to either have a mental breakdown or quit someone higher up in hr told me they are trying to fire me. So here I am working under duress until I find a new job or get fired

I’m on intermittent leave & my sup is now expecting me to keep a work log & report to her what things are “lingering” at the end of each day. Her reasoning was “since you’re talking intermittent leave and it’s all over the place I need to be able to step in”. She’s also over my shoulder & sends passive aggressive messages like oh I came to your desk and you weren’t there. What can I do about this?

I believe i was retaliation by my work place. I was fired after 14 years working there. I was recently put on administrative leave to be investigated. after almost 2 weeks I was found not at fault and was allowed back to work. things happened during my leave, I was blamed for it all. I sent an email a day before an incident happened for my documentation. I was let go for the email I sent out about the incident, while the one who caused the incident is still working there. plus when I was fired they blamed me for what hapoened during my leave.

What if you believe it bad references internally—- that’s preventing you from moving to a different area?

I got fired two years ago bc they were defending a bully and I would tell the manager but she was her friend and one of the defenders also used my epilepsy as my excuse that I called out too much

How do you know what they share when employers call them for a reference?

I question does HR put pressure on the boss to be toxic or are the bosses just toxic 😅

Most managers won’t provide bad references as they can be subject to defamation which is whole other lawsuit, especially if you have a history of being a high performer. They really only do it if the employee engaged in something illegal.
