Day 9: River Otters 🦦Today's featured animals are the wonderfully playful North American river otters! 🤎💦 🦦 River otters seem to have mastered something the rest of us could learn from: sometimes life is meant to be enjoyed. They're famous for wrestling, chasing one another, swimming, diving and even sliding down muddy or snowy banks—and while some of that play helps youngsters develop important survival skills, they certainly appear to have a lot of fun doing it! 🦦 They're beautifully designed for life in and around the water. Their streamlined bodies, powerful tails and webbed feet make them excellent swimmers, and they can close their ears and nostrils while underwater. Their thick, water-resistant fur helps insulate them in chilly water. 🦦 Otters are also curious and social animals. They communicate through a variety of sounds and scent markings, and mothers devote months to teaching their pups the skills they'll need to survive on their own. 🦦 And there's something about seeing two little otter faces together that makes this photo especially sweet. 🥹 🦦 For Day 9 of World Animal Month, here's to an animal that reminds us that God's creation isn't only magnificent and purposeful...sometimes it's downright playful. 🦦🦦💦 “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24 🦦 Maybe the river otter has the right idea: Swim when you can. Play whenever possible. Stay close to those you love. And enjoy the day God gave you. 🤎🌿 #animal #animals #otters
