As a german... when we say our english isn't that good... it's because we learn english in school and they make us crazy with all the time forms and irregular verbs and stuff. Basically you just get the feeling that your english has to be 100% perfect. Which it doesn't have to, because people will understand you either way...

The problem for us Germans is that we often don't dare to speak for fear of not knowing certain words, so we usually reply with "My English isn't that good" 😅 At least that’s how it is for me… though I can understand everything...
