Happy Heavenly Birthday, Daddy. ❤️ Every year, your birthday brings a little extra heaviness to my heart. Ten years without you, and somehow grief still has a way of making certain moments feel like yesterday. Recently, an old friend sent me this picture I’d never seen before, and it stopped me in my tracks. I couldn’t tell you exactly what we were doing that day, definitely some kind of horse show or 4-H event, but I can tell you this picture represents everything my daddy was to me. Right there beside me. Always. His Pittsburgh hat on, a Dr Pepper close by, and that proud daddy smile. He was my biggest cheerleader, but also the first to correct me when I wasn’t giving something my all. He was particular, stubborn, and believed there was a right way to do just about everything. 😂 But he was also the man who taught me to stand ten toes down, work hard, love fiercely, and never let the world walk all over me. And no matter what I was doing, I knew he was right there, proudly saying, “That’s my baby girl.” I think one of the hardest parts of grief is realizing just how much someone’s presence made you feel safe until you have to learn to live without it. Daddy raised me to be strong, independent, and to stand on my own two feet. But what I didn’t fully understand then was how much strength came from knowing he was always standing right there beside me. He taught me how to stand on my own, while making sure I never felt like I had to stand alone. And that’s the part of grief that still catches me off guard, even ten years later. Missing not just the person, but the safety of knowing they were always there. But oh, how grateful I am that God chose him to be my daddy. For every lesson, every correction, every proud smile, and every moment I got to be his baby girl. So much of the woman I am today is because of the man he was. And maybe that’s one of the beautiful things about grief. Even though I can’t have him beside me the way I once did, I still carry so much of him within me. Forever your baby girl. Happy Birthday, Daddy. I sure do miss you. ❤️
