Did you ever figure out what the culprit was for your “gut” or stomach sticking out? I’m struggling with the same thing but idk if it’s just organ size and genetics or genuine fat tissue

deadpolemics :
exactly. bodybuilders want to stress a target muscle maximally with the least load, whereas a powerlifter wants to lift the most weight (load) with the least effort (stress). It's training a muscle vs training a movement.

He is 💯 correct. In High School I was part of a competitive power lifting teams. My goal was lift as much weight as possible while keeping myself in the 185 weight class. Now my focus is health and appearance. I don’t want to get overly muscular, I want to be fit and feel healthy. So the programs I use now are different than when my goal was different.

Kai is 100% right some of SBL has an obsession with thinking maximal load = more mechanical tension even tho their form is terrible and they compensate the lifts with non target muscle groups

Basically he's saying "I'm trying to target xyz in a specific way to make it grow as much as possible" as opposed to "I'm trynna move as much weight as possible" but I thought we all knew that's how bodybuilding works

meaning: "weight goes up" can translate into multiple types of adaptations other than hypertrophy.
If however, you focus on controlling the weight, contraction, and time under tension - you target adaptation by means of hypertrophy.

For those that dont understand. Swinging on a bicep curl is no longer the joint action of elbow flexion alone. At that point youre trying to move the weight by any means necessary, like a powerlifter. thus its not going to be the best way to stimulate hypertrophy for the bicep. That does not mean we shouldnt move a lot of weight with the bicep. it just means we should be moving the weight with the bicep(and other elbow flexors) EXCLUCIVELY without other froms of help(e.g momentum or other muscle groups assisting)

Contracting against greater resistance without lifting, sounds like resistance band work. Weightlifters train the lift itself, their body adapts to being more efficient at the lifts they train. Difference between weightlifters and powerlifters, now that’s a little grey to me..

Ross McDougall :
his explanation is all good. look at a powerlifting physique vs bodybuilder. powerlifters focus on muscles for specific motions. BB adhere to an aesthetic goal to appeal to their sports judges.
