Had to repeat clips because there’s too much ai slop and not enough human made clips of what I was looking for ☹️ Solarpunk is a speculative fiction genre, visual art style, and grassroots political movement that envisions a hopeful, egalitarian future where humanity, technology, and nature coexist in sustainable harmony. Emerging on the internet in 2008 as a direct counter-response to the grim, corporate-dominated dystopias of cyberpunk, the "solar" in solarpunk represents both a literal reliance on renewable energy—such as wind, solar power, and passive architecture—and a metaphorical embrace of radical optimism and light in the face of climate anxiety. The "punk" element signifies its countercultural, anti-capitalist, and anti-consumerist foundation; it rebels against extractive, profit-driven systems by championing decentralisation, community ownership, social justice, and do-it-yourself (DIY) ethics. Visually, the aesthetic is characterised by lush, greenery-wrapped urban landscapes, walkable cities, and human-scale architecture heavily inspired by Art Nouveau, organic curves, upcycled materials, and diverse African and Asian design motifs. Unlike purely utopian fantasies that imagine impossible inventions, solarpunk focuses on practical, real-world ingenuity, exploring how society might realistically look if we successfully deploy existing eco-technologies, implement regenerative permaculture, and practice mutual aid. It is a narrative of resilience that does not deny the challenges of climate change or human conflict, but firmly insists that environmental and social recovery are worth fighting for, transforming technology into a tool for collective liberation rather than corporate domination. #socialism #solarpunk #renewable #capitalism #energy - @nokingsnogodsnofascists
