John was the corps first choice. He spent his entire life training for the ring and is simply a better more talented ring user and Guy knows it. He also knows the corps are liable to simply give the position directly the John once they hear he wants it again. John gives him an out. He gets to stay the Lantern and avoid any confrontation

It’s because guy has no idea what John can do but he knows that Superman can do. Fighting a green lantern who’s abilities are basically unlimited is very bad when you don’t even know what they are like

I like to imagine because guy knows he has a ring and a lantern to charge it, makes him really dangerous guy isn’t afraid to throw down with Superman, but he doesn’t wanna fight another lantern

Guy doesn’t owe John 💩 imo. Guy was probably the most reasonable person the entire show, being green lantern is the best thing that happened to him and it’s not unreasonable for him to simply do his job as he’s told and follow the rules like everyone else who wants to keep a job, why would he want to mess that up for himself?? He goes out of his way regardless of that to help John and get him the ring back, and even after going to get advice from Hal and getting told to kick rocks he still was one of the few that went to his funeral and paid respects. Unlike John who only used Hal’s funeral as a way to get the ring.

okay fair, still doesn't explain why he would let John dog on him at the end. Just because guy was "second choice" doesn't mean he didn't earn the ring on his own merit, he didn't deserve the disrespect he got from John.
