@thenewsmovement: Abortion pills, mystery ‘teas’ and promises of help, all being offered through Facebook groups with thousands of members. Lucy Gape found dozens of these groups, where women seeking abortions say they’ve been scammed or sold remedies that didn’t work. Whitney, global marketing manager at MSI Reproductive Choices, told TNM that ineffective remedies can also delay women seeking legitimate care, potentially pushing pregnancies further along and making safe, legal services harder to access. MSI has previously accused Meta of restricting or removing legitimate abortion-related content, while groups like those documented in this investigation have remained accessible on Facebook. We put our findings to Meta. A spokesperson said: “We want our platforms to be a place where people can access reliable information about health services such as abortion, advertisers can promote health services, and everyone can discuss and debate public policies in this space. Content about reproductive health must follow our rules, including those on pharmaceutical drugs and misinformation. We evaluate content posted on our platform independently against our Community Standards, and have removed the violating content brought to our attention.”
