Luke was recording the linage of Mary so Heli was the father of Mary thats why he was referred to Joseph's father because in Hebrew they didn't have the word (father in law) they could just call it (the father of) David the king had many sons so Joseph comes from Solomon whose mother was Uria's wife(Mat 1:6) And Mary comes from Nathan who was still King David's son. Mathew recorded Joseph who came from Solomon and Luke recorded Mary who came from Nathan but all their Father was David.
