Claims rep here. Anytime you utilize your own insurance fault or no fault you pay the DEDUCTIBLE. Unless you only have liability insurance then your car cannot be reapaired with your own insurance since coverage is only what your liable for , for example if you was the one that hit , it will cover damages you caused.

fun fact even if you report the hit and run with their license plate the person responsible can decide to not talk to the cops and deny fault and when you get in touch with their insurance their insurance will say they are not at fault and they will basically get away with the hit and run and you will have to go thru ur own insurance to repair the damages ask me how i know 😫

See, this type of info also needs to be taught in drivers ED. The system for insurance in the US is so messed up, but unfortunately that is life. If you don’t get the other persons info, no matter the situation, and you go to make a claim, it will ALWAYS be coming out of your own pocket. This is why you see dash cams of people chasing hit and runs. Because if they get away, they have to pay for their own damage. Unless it was severe or high profile, cops arnt going to do a thing. I’ll leave some quick tips I was taught;

Yeah, insurance is stupid. But you should see if wherever you parked has cameras and get the footage. you can take it to the cops and they can try and find out who it is

that’s what collision is for. who do you expect the insurance company to go after if the other party fled the scene ? you pay your deductible that you selected and they fix it.

this happened to me 2 weeks ago, hit and run on my PARKED CAR overnight😭😭 filed a police report and luckily there’s cameras across the street, but haven’t heard ANYTHING since. still had to pay out of pocket for my rental car and $300 deductible 😩

That’s what a deductible means. Any time you use your insurance regardless if you’re at fault or not you have to pay your deductible.

since you don’t know who it was, unfortunately if you’re wanting damages fixed you would have to file through your own insurance. you’d still be subject to your deductible. BUT if you happen to find out who it was, you can turn it into the police & get the other persons insurance info & give that to your claim handler & they can subrogate to get any money you have paid back

Had an Enterprise Box truck hit my parked car on an empty street, and dip. Tried calling Enterprise to get information on the driver, bc you typically need insurance to rent stuff, but they didnt want to give me a damn thing. Like what?!!
