@piercing.mistress: In order to create that hidden effect, you need enough of that upper ridge to fold over to hide the base of the jewelry. If you don't have enough, you can still get that area pierced, but it won't be hidden, so it would be a upper flat or vertical helix. Initial jewelry should ideally be something simple and easier to clean. Whenever a client chooses jewelry that is more decorative, I always talk to them about the risk of it catching on things more easily, and it being difficult to clean or look clean. Remember, a hidden helix and a vertical helix piercing are two completely different piercings. A proper hidden helix is pierced right the crease of your ear where your ear folds up on itself at the top/near top. A lot of people put hidden helix jewlery in a vertical helix because they got the wrong piercing and it always looks awful because the bar on which the dangley bits hang will be visible.
