rivian maintenance is 1/3 the cost of a gas powered truck. plus it's cheaper to run. this will dramatically reduce caltrans costs on fleet maintenance. its a no brainer.

Jeramy With An A :
I wonder how many CA politicians owned Rivian stock when they approved that purchase.

They got a deal, stoked local production of Rivian in Oakland, and the savings on gas over x years im sure pans out if they were to buy a cheaper gas vehicle in lieu.

The save a ton on maintenance cost in the first year. No oil or fluid changes, also no damage from idling for long periods of time. Also it has its own on board power outlet.

they had to buy the rivians because they're the only ones that could sit all day long and one space with the air conditioning on and recline the seats back far enough to be in a comfortable sleeping position for an entire shift Chevys you'd have to get out at work because air conditioning wouldn't stay on that low

That included all of the upfitting costs and modifications, which can get very expensive per vehicle. The Chevy's probably would have ended up close to the same cost. The real problem is that the US in general is so focused on public/private partnerships for infrastructure that the taxpayer ends up getting screwed. The state building infrastructure on their own has a vested interest in keeping costs down and doing the best work possible to save money on future repairs. Private contractors have the exact opposite goal, and since the Citizens United ruling, can easily buy politicians off with political contributions. For the record, the F35 program has a total cost of $2 trillion, its not something you should point at as a better investment.
