@borntoserve07: Sometimes the crisis doesn’t start with a crisis. Sometimes it starts with a change everybody keeps overlooking. After 17 years in caregiving, I’ve learned to pay attention to changes from a person’s usual pattern. Mental health has always been part of my caregiving world. Over the years, I’ve cared for people with many different needs, including individuals experiencing mental-health challenges. So when I talk about mental health here, I’m sharing what years of caregiving have taught me to notice, not trying to diagnose anyone. One of the biggest lessons? Learn the person’s baseline. When something changes, pay attention. The pacing may be different. Sleep may suddenly change. Someone may begin withdrawing from meals, activities, or people they normally enjoy. Medication or care may suddenly become a struggle. Irritability may increase. None of these signs by themselves automatically mean someone is having a mental health crisis. That distinction matters. But when I notice several changes, or something is clearly different from that person’s normal behavior, I don’t dismiss it. The key word is change. You know a person's normal, so watch for when it shifts. I pay attention. I stay calm. I try to understand what changed. And when necessary, I seek appropriate professional help. Caregiving taught me that sometimes the earliest warning isn’t loud. It’s different. The earlier you see it, the softer you can meet it.💜 #HealingForCaregivers #FollowMeAcrossTheBridge #MentalHealthMatters
