As a co I got sworn in and we got issued a fire arm which we can carry outside. We enforce the laws within the jail. How would they stay in jail yall if we had 0 authority ?

No not really , but you still have a really important role and needed . Different lifestyle and work , you regulate under laws pertaining departments of corrections and basic Post.

Been a CO for 5 yrs.. we are not law enforcement even though we do “enforce” some laws yes. We are classified as “first responders” very few states put fully prepared road deputies in the jail as sworn law enforcement with their certification cards.

But when people say that they’re in law-enforcement in their correctional officer, they don’t wanna tell people that they’re a correctional officer they want people to assume that they’re a police officer because nobody goes into being a correctional officer really wanting to do that as a career.
