It’s officially fall in West Virginia 🍁✨ & The Mon is putting on an absolute show right now… We just got back from a soul-filling weekend chasing foliage around Tucker County, and were once again blown away by the landscapes we were greeted by. It’s just one of those places that keeps calling us back no matter how many times we make the trip out... These clips were taken on 10/3-10/4 in Dolly Sods Wilderness (which is nothing short of a magical tundra-esque/ancient boggy fever dream) and Blackwater Falls State Park (where just when you think you’ve seen all of the waterfalls in/around the area you’ll find another one)… So if you want to peep the leaves here this year, pack up your car and go now (or next weekend)!!! Lots of trees and bushes are absolutely popping (vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges), but some spots are definitely still mostly green (and some are gone, but that’s just how it goes). When you go, just be prepared to get muddy (like, really muddy) and download offline maps ahead of time because service is spotty at best. Also, promise to practice leave no trace. These ecosystems are fragile, rare, and provide a unique habitat for wildlife that are rarely found this far south, so they need our extreme care and protection. Stay on trail, pack out everything you bring in, and do your best to leave the trails you explore better than you found them, so we can continue to share in a collective awe when we visit for years to come.
