a password manager is nowhere near as difficult to create as your own programming language, making a basic password manager is relatively straightforward, you mainly need a solid understanding of encryption concepts and algorithms like AES, which already have hundreds of well-tested implementations in virtually every language, creating ur own language requires designing the language itself and building a compiler or interpreter to actually execute it

making your own lang can be pretty easy but it can also be pretty difficult depending on the scope. I did mine in uni. Prof told me to make a backend in my own lang so that i can show that my lang is applicable. It was a pure interpreter and quiet a challenging project for sure

i'm currently writing my own text based adventure game in rust, i think a project like that is also really good because you have to work with being able to carress user input into the control flow and the effect it has on game state - i.e. parsing user input into a command and arguments then updating game state based on it. it also requires a good ability to handle errors, both with the input of the game (i.e. typos and type errors), but also with the game logic (no exits that way, missing necessary items to progress, etc...) and making sure the code is stable and responds in the ways you expect. it's been super fun so far, and i'm challening myself to use minimal dependencies!
