@thats_inappropriate: The tricky part about adulthood and life is that we gotta keep paying the bills each month…they don’t seem to stop 😳😳🙄🙄😂😂😂 #momlife #teen #parenting #college
To ALLLLL the people of TikTok who ripped her a new one for telling her daughter to figure it out. THIS WAS THE LESSON!

Well, for all those negative comments previously, some of us knew this conversation was eventually going to happen. What a great teaching moment for her and still be supportive! Yeah mom!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You did a great job at the start telling her that she needed to figure it out. She had to make her phone calls and because you called her "I'm an adult" bluff, the phone calls she made have opened her eyes. If you had made all those phone calls and just relayed the information to her probably would've gone in one ear out the other. But because she had to get this information on her own she's getting a glimpse of real life. A big step towards adulthood!!!

So you don’t want to help her out? With room and board for college?

you are her parent. that is your responsibility to pay. i hate how we in America push the responsibility to educate our children in others. we expect free public schools till they are 18 then they pay for their own college. i have saved enough that my children will not have to pay a cent for college and every parent should do the same. yes college is super expensive and yes it is probably too much but that is another discussion.

And THAT is exactly why having THEM call and get the info. One, teaches them hands on another critical life skill wrapped into hearing it from the horse’s mouth (housing office), jot it down on paper, calculate, etc = 💡

I worked 4 jobs my freshman year. I had a tuition break, but dorms were $$$! But, I worked, went to class, AND went out and had fun. It's possible. Scary, crappy, hard, but possible.

I don't get it though. I came from that other video where you were all "she doesn't want to go to a community college like we want her to, she THINKS she's an adult at almost 18 but she's not" but now you expect her to pay her rent even though you were insisting she wasn't really an adult? So is she an adult at 18 or not? Seems like you want her to try being an adult just so she can fail and you can get your "I told you so now go to community college like I told you to do in the first place" moment.

Unfortunately FASFA has made it a requirement for parents to be active in financial responsibility of their child’s college. Even when we were graduating in the 90’s. Not that student loans are always the answer, but they are an option. Mom of 4 here, two currently in college. My kids actively participate in all of the college stuff but we do it together. When my son was deciding between Emery Riddle and a cheaper state school, we talked through the pros and cons together. We discussed how he finances together. I would ask him open answer questions to help him think about various outcomes, consequences, and rewards of the various paths. I refuse to be my parents.

My niece was able to stay in the dorm her freshman year and went to college tuition free because my sister got a job at the college she attended.

As a veteran high school teacher, I can’t stress enough the importance and availability of community college the first two years. I get they all want to fly off, but it’s not always financially realistic
