@buzzingforhorror: That ‘Coraline’ intro is basically a horror movie hiding inside a children’s movie before the story even starts 😱😨 The opening sequence immediately sets the unsettling tone as a creepy doll is taken apart and transformed into a button-eyed version of Coraline, with every tiny movement brought to life through painstaking stop-motion animation. It is such a strange combination of beautiful craftsmanship and disturbing imagery, especially because you can see the handmade details in every stitch and movement. The sequence perfectly foreshadows the Other Mother and the button-eyed world Coraline will eventually discover, while Bruno Coulais’ eerie score slowly turns the atmosphere from whimsical to genuinely unsettling.
