For context, she comes mondays-Saturdays, mornings to evening, with sundays off. Her job description was to assist in cooking, kitchen errands and house maintenance. We have a cleaner that comes in to clean the entire house and another that vacuums the rug and chairs. We also have someone that does major laundry, while we use the washing machine for quick easy clothes. I was fully in charge of the kids. She was well paid, ate everything we ate, took food home daily and I randomly gave her stuff. I thought I was being kind, but I was oblivious to the fact that the she held on to things and ignored the good. The things she complained about that I did to her: 1. I told her to iron clothes- She told me she doesn’t do that, so I just told her to fold the clothes instead. 2. I told her to wash clothes- Which according to her, she doesn’t do. Apparently, putting clothes on the washing machine, taking them out to dry and folding them was a lot of work for her 😅 I threatened to take it out of her salary, which I immediately laughed about and apologized for, but she didn’t find it funny. 3. I asked if she has some else staying with her at home- This was because of her food portions. Whenever she was leaving, I would dish food for her, she would always tell me to add more. The portions were scary for one woman, but she didn’t find the question funny, she found it rather offensive. Yup! Fast forward to Monday, she didn’t show up, didn’t call, didn’t say anything. She probably blocked me and the woman that brought her because we both couldn’t reach her at all with phones 🤷🏻‍♀️ I really had no idea she was holding on to anything, or that she wasn’t going to come in on Monday, because everything had been so seamless. What hurts is that, my kids were already used to her and I already had a soft spot for her too. Plus I love stability, so the whole changing helps isn’t for me at all. But on the bright side, the person we interviewed (who was supposed to work with us initially before I chose this one), said she does everything in the house, literally any house work. What I’ve learned is to lay out rules and duties from the onset! And set firm boundaries.
