@nicknamed.bree: 😭 The kind of conversation I have with a lot of people who have dismissive avoidant attachment styles. Getting them to acknowledge the emotional neglect & lack of attunement is…really challenging. #dismissiveavoidant #avoidant
And give them ammunition against me? Absolutely not.

I could go to my parents with my problems. But only if it got bad enough that it was a total meltdown. And then ignore everything again until it was at meltdown level. Got embarassingly far into therapy before it clicked that that’s not when people mean when they ask if you could go to your parents with your problems 🤦♀️

my dad didn’t care and my mom would overreact and show up to school in the middle of the day to yell at my teacher while i’m in class and embarrass me so i couldn’t tell her anything either

I was the kind of kid who was told to “get over it and stop being such a baby” roughly at age 2 1/2: if I recognize how fucked up that was, what kind of avoidant does that make me?

I totally agree on the other hand I do feel irritated sometimes because I used to be this way. My dad and step mom getting mad at me if I threw up and telling me I could just starve, if I did go to my dad about something my step mom trying to intimidate me saying “stop telling him things because he just gets mad at me” — both my biological parents being very religious so I couldn’t talk to them about a good chunk of my feelings. —— All of that to say as an adult it’s on you to grow even if your childhood wasn’t good

Lmao DA was me at one point. I explained away all their neglectful behavior and internalized it. Now (diagnosed with AvPD), I’m just angry that I didn’t speak my mind and now all it has done is hurt my other relationships 🫡

I could go to my mom with anything without fear of judgement. My dad was always working...
