He is one of the Death Painting Wombs, a group of cursed beings created through the combination of human and cursed-spirit characteristics. Choso is the eldest of the Death Painting brothers and develops an extremely strong sense of responsibility toward his younger brothers, Eso and Kechizu. At first, Choso is introduced as an antagonist who fights against Yuji Itadori and the other jujutsu sorcerers, but his character changes dramatically as he discovers the truth about his family and begins questioning everything he previously believed. Unlike many characters who are motivated primarily by ideology, Choso’s strongest motivation is family. He is deeply protective of his brothers and considers their lives more important than his own. This devotion becomes one of the defining characteristics of his personality and explains many of his decisions throughout the story. Choso possesses the powerful inherited technique Blood Manipulation, which allows him to control and manipulate his own blood in combat. Choso is also an extremely experienced fighter who can remain calm and analytical even under intense pressure. Despite his intimidating appearance and serious personality, Choso is not naturally cruel. Much of his early hostility comes from his determination to protect his brothers and his belief that the jujutsu sorcerers are responsible for their deaths. His confrontation with Yuji becomes especially important because Choso eventually experiences something that completely changes his understanding of their relationship. He begins to perceive Yuji as his younger brother, creating one of the strangest but most meaningful relationships in Jujutsu Kaisen. This realization transforms Choso’s role in the story. Instead of continuing to see Yuji as an enemy, he becomes fiercely protective of him and begins treating him as part of his family. Choso’s relationship with Yuji is particularly interesting because it is based on an emotional certainty that neither of them initially fully understands. Choso’s instincts as an older brother become extremely strong, and he repeatedly places himself between Yuji and danger. This relationship also gives Yuji something he has lost throughout the series: another person who genuinely considers him family. Choso’s personality is generally quiet, serious, and reserved, but his behavior becomes surprisingly emotional whenever his brothers are involved. He can be awkward when interacting with others, especially because he has spent most of his existence focused almost entirely on his family. This creates moments of unexpected humor because Choso can appear incredibly intimidating while simultaneously behaving like an overprotective older brother. His seriousness also hides a deeply emotional personality. Choso feels guilt, grief, love, anger, and responsibility very intensely, and his decisions are often shaped by those emotions. His appearance reflects his distinctive character design, with long dark hair, pale skin, and markings across his face that make him immediately recognizable.
