Digital-D :
Painful as it may feel, she is very right that most Nigerians are not enlightened. Nafdac only regulates food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics and packaged water. I also know they are not adequately resourced in terms of budget, personnel, and appropriate technology. They are actually doing a lot but can certainly do more.
Sanitizing the supply chain of food, drugs, water, cosmetics, etc requires the vigilance of everyone. We must stop the culture of silence that we have in Nigeria. Many of us know fufu sellers that add detergent, or ponmo makers that add paracetamol, or fruit sellers that ripen with carbide, or bread/pure water/cosmetics products that have no Nafdac number or palm oil sellers that add dyes/colorants or people in our community that fake other company's products. We also patronise hawkers of medicines on the streets/ in buses. We continue to buy beans from retailers whom we know have added Sniper to preserve beans. We never take it upon ourselves to educate these criminals or even report them to the authorities. But we are quick to blame Nafdac when a family dies from eating fraudulently processed fufu or ponmo or palm oil. Do we expect Nafdac to enter every apartment across Nigeria to check what people are doing?
