@downtoinvest: Most retirement planning starts with one question: "how much do I need to save?" But that number isn't fixed. It's a multiple of what your life costs. The goal isn't the biggest portfolio possible. It's a life that doesn't need one. 📌 Every dollar you spend each year in retirement needs about $25 saved. Taking $500 a month out of your retirement budget lowers the amount you need by roughly $150,000*. 📌 Smaller withdrawals can mean less taxable income each year. 📌 Before you retire, try living on your planned retirement budget for six months. You'll find out which expenses you'd miss and which ones were just habit (and you get to save the difference). If you're new here I'm Mallory Warren, CFP® and Financial Advisor on my page @downtoinvest I share free tips on how to future-proof your financial plan. Education only, not financial advice. *Based on the 4% rule, a rule of thumb from historical U.S. market data: withdraw about 4% of your portfolio in year one, then adjust for inflation, over a roughly 30-year retirement. It's an estimate that doesn't include taxes or fees and isn't a guarantee or a recommendation for your situation.
