Jordynne Emmett Whelan :
RIGHT... Omar, you're allowed to have instant feelings or thoughts when someone tells you they are a witch. Especially if the only exposure you've had to "witchcraft" is negative ones like when they are portrayed as villains in books or movies or whatever. BUT as an adult, it is your obligation to listen, to ask questions without judgement and to actually think before you speak about something that obviously is a large chunk of someone's self identity. A Catholic American may have negative connotations with the Muslim faith (which is common and sad) from whatever they've seen on the news, or from their fkd president, or from the small slices of history they were exposed to. BUT that person would owe YOU that same respect of getting to know you, your faith, to ask questions, bring up their concerns and actually LISTEN to your responses. YES it is NORMAL to think green skin, black hat and wicked laugh when you hear the word witch, you can't be ridiculed for that. What you are being CHALLENGED on is the lack of emotional intelligence, empathy and openness towards others and to learning about them. And above all CHANGING YOUR PERSPECTIVE. No one should be pre-judged on the basis of their religion, spirituality or sexuality and they also shouldn't have the negative stereotypes about their faith used as a laughing point in the conversation. Like flying around on a broomstick. Muslim or LGBTQ people face far greater backlash in today's society, yes. But historically, "Witches" have too, and the only reason you don't know this is because of your lack of openness, humility and empathy (and partially because you are a young male). Twinks, you are an incredibly patient person and I admire everything about you. You've done your community a service with how you handled all of that ❤️❤️❤️❤️
