i have a ridgeback mutt 😭😭😭 his name is baylor he’s the sweetest baby ever we got him like 6 years ago from the shelter because he has parvo 😔❤️❤️(also that’s his bed don’t mind the slobber LOL)

I had a Redbone Coonhound that someone mistook for a ridgeback at the vets office once. Like no ma'am that's his spine because he was a stray that I picked up and dude needs to put some weight on.

Totally possible for ridgeless (slickbacks). Generally discouraged and out of standard for the breed. Used to be culled back in the day. Thanks for the excuse to post photo of my bippy :)

Ridgebacks can actually have no ridge there is a rare genetic mutation where one of the parents can carry to where some of the puppies won’t have a ridge it’s an “undesirable” trait and usually they are sold at a lower price or given away! Just some fun information I know from family raising them🥰

You can definitely have a ridgeless ridgeback, many breeders don’t breed homozygous ridgebacks because the gene increases the risk for dermoid sinus (a neural tube malformation)

I need other people's opinion is it bad to have a dog that is scared of other dogs off leash he wears a muzzle and listens when called but he likes smelling other dog to know they aren't a threat and he moves on
