@missaishaxox: What makes someone “beautiful”and how can skin tone affect the way someone’s beauty is perceived? That is one of the themes explored in Jocelyn Bioh’s School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play @Manhattan Theatre Club 📍 Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street, New York, NY) I haven’t experienced many plays but this story made me laugh and was deeply emotional School Girls follows a group of teenage girls students at an elite Ghanaian boarding school competing for Miss Ghana beauty pageant. Becoming Miss Ghana 1986 would mean fame, fortune, and prosperity. At least, that’s what the Queen bee Paulina believes . However when Ericka,a new biracial student from America transfers in, the competition quickly heightens 🔥. This play explores themes of beauty privilege, colorism, and friendship. #pov #justagirl #africangirl #schoolgirls #theatrekid
