No bc when Oaks said “As your President, I pray for what our Heavenly Father wants for each of us — to be active members of the Church of Jesus Christ” at the recent conference, I cried hysterically bc as someone who struggles with the guilt of not believing/deconstructing that is not at all what I think any God wants and it just made me feel more guilty 🥸

exactly. the LEAST loving take on our leaving is to slap a label on us, an entire group of individuals with unique experiences. yet somehow we're all just the same to them— a tragedy with a label that is both personal and degrading at the same time. we're wayward, lost, something to be grieved. what if instead we were celebrated for our courage? the bravery it took to pursue our questions, carry their rejection of all that we became, and to be born again as a new person. we've utterly transformed, and meanwhile, they know nothing of it because they won't even dare to listen.

You need more Jesus :

If leaving makes someone “wayward,” does staying make someone unquestioning? If questioning means we have “strayed,” does refusing to question mean we are afraid of what we might discover? Neither conclusion is fair. Staying does not prove ignorance, and leaving does not prove a lack of integrity. Some of us left because we studied deeply, took the truth seriously, and could no longer honestly defend what we once believed. Calling that “falling away” dismisses the possibility that it was an act of conscience.

Any advice for someone who's 17 and wants to leave when they move out and wants to know how to explain it to their parents and other family..? I just can't be apart of a church that claims that its the only way for me to have joy but i've been more depressed than i ever have when it comes to the church
