Why does no one ever talk about you can only make 24,000 extra a year if you retire at 62? What about those of us who make 100 K a year?

But I make 210k/year, so better for me to keep working for a few more years to max out that 401k

The other factor is if she has a younger spouse. Changes the math entirely.

A lot of commenters doesn’t understand that retiring or getting their SS at 62 doesn’t mean that SS benefits is their only source of income. They should have a good amount in their retirement account as well

I wish you people would look at it the right way it all depends on what you need to survive on per month

Now here's where it gets tricky. What if we cannot afford to live off of the $1,800 payment at age 62, and we need to work until age 67 in order to get the $2,400 payment? What do we get for waiting? Well, a living wage paid between ages 62 and 67, and then a more liveable benefit paid at age 67. In this scenario, how do you justify taking the benefit at age 62?

I’m 60 and making 100,000 a year salary. If I retire at 62 I would be getting a fraction of my salary! I’ll work till I’m 64/65 and have a fatter retirement fund! Also remember this you retire at 62 with no health insurance your done if your hospitalized and will deplete your savings!

If you’re still working at 62 to get employer health insurance then it doesn’t make sense to collect at 62

If you still work making $150k you need to factor the net affect of taking it now and getting it back later when you stop working.

The client clearly had enough savings to live on from 62-67, some of us had hardships that demolished our 401k and the real kick in the balls is they limit the income you can earn while collecting early, teachers pensions don’t have that restriction. It’s bullshit

You can only make 23k at 62 and much as you want at 67. If you retire at 62 your life expectancy is 69
