Chris!!!! I recommend getting a 1:1 assisted stretch. Your muscles are fatigued!!!! Most likely due to no stretching before or after running and tight glutes/quads/hamstrings. Please try dynamic stretching before running and static stretching after.

Had this after peak week for Chicago. Foam roll it band plays quad hamstring and calf everyday. Keep doing the strengthening exercises and only run as far without it hurting. You’ll have to rehab after race but it’s enough to get you to starting line

Swim! I messed up my IT band in May, lots of rolling out & swimming kept my fitness and healed me

Go to PT and get dry needled, it was almost an immediate fix for me when I was having issues before my last race

Went to PT for IT band syndrome earlier this year (literally 3 weeks before my marathon) lol. Foam rolling the it band, glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves, & stretching those same areas everyday (literally). Alongside doing clamshells, fire hydrants, banded lateral walks, single leg rdls a few times a week had my pain gone quickly and I was able to run my marathon with no pain!

I played soccer in college and was told by our training staff to not stretch statically before running but rather to do small movements to stretch. IE… scoops, open/close the gate/ leg kicks. Etc

Athletic Trainer here 👋🏻 Hip mobility is key! Find some good hip focused yoga videos on YouTube. Overall hip strength as well (glutes, hip flexors, etc.). The foam rolling doesn’t magically fix it but it doesn’t hurt! And you can always do some ice cupping/massage when you’re done running for some pain relief if needed!

I get shockwave therapy when I need to heal faster for a pulled muscle and also when I had a stress reaction in my shin!

Chris you HAVE to stretch before and after you run bro. I know it may seem small, but it makes the world of a difference. Please start doing it

See a PT for dry needling with electrical stimulation - worked for me before my marathon! Also another trick is applying Voltaren (an arthritis gel lol) around areas of irritation on your leg

I was taught by a physio to use ‘cupping’ to release it, as opposed to stretching & rolling. GAME CHANGER!

Focus on glute minimus/medius exercises- had a slight hip drop and had lateral knee pain that was catching and was dx as ITB syndrome (only thing that got me thru ultras)
