1/1 Hey you ! I’m 53, so I could quite easily be your mother, age-wise. I’ve had my own experience with toxic parents, and I know how much mental health diagnoses can make the path through life more difficult. I can see the sadness in your eyes, I hear what you’re saying in your messages, and it genuinely touches me very deeply.
Never forget this: your father’s attitude says absolutely nothing about your worth. It only shows how deep his own darkness and cruelty run. That is sad and tragic – for him. A healthy father would never think, feel or say such things. You did not deserve this rejection, and you are never to blame for it.
You are an artist, you make music, and you have a wife and children who love you. Despite everything, you are building a life of your own – and that shows just how strong you are.
Because I care about what happens to you, I’d like to leave you with a few thoughts that might help:
The problem lies within your father’s own psychological system: I suspect he may have what is sometimes referred to as “malignant narcissism”. Taking pleasure in the perceived (!) failure of one’s own child can be a sign of deeply sadistic and destructive traits. People like this can feed their ego by putting others down. Please never take this personally or believe what he says about you. Whatever is going on within him, it belongs to him – not to you. His words are poison, and you have every right to refuse to let that poison into your own mind.
Autism and vulnerability: If you are autistic (please correct me if I’ve misunderstood you), you may naturally process sensory input and social interactions differently. Autistic people can sometimes take statements very literally and without the protective filter that others might have. That can make his cruelty even more damaging, because it may be harder to recognise his manipulation for what it is. But none of this says anything about your worth. It has absolutely nothing to do with who you are.
