I don’t think we should call it a gift. In this context it would be an evolutionary trait. Similar to sickle cell. Sickle cell is common in sub Saharan African genes because it’s actually it helps protect against malaria, specifically when a person is a carrier instead of possessing two recessive genes. Autism is polygenic but probably is similar. Individually those genetic traits were advantageous but in the wrong environment and context they no longer become advantageous and in fact can be disabling. I don’t think we’d consider sickle cell genes to be a gift
