@theresasandsdawli: Employer Life Insurance May Not Be Enough One question I often hear as a life insurance specialist is whether employer-provided life insurance offers enough protection. For a $70K earner, a typical 2x salary benefit means $140K in coverage. After funeral expenses, outstanding bills, and mortgage payments, that amount can quickly dwindle. The real challenge is making sure your loved ones have financial support that lasts for years—not just months. The long-standing guideline suggests securing a policy worth 10-12 times your income to cover debts, childcare, and lost earning potential. It's also important to remember that employer coverage is linked to your job. Changing employers, facing a layoff, or entering retirement means that protection could disappear, and obtaining new coverage later in life may be more expensive or even unavailable. Employer-sold supplemental policies often come with the same portability limitations and rates that increase every five years as you age. Exploring a 20- or 30-year term policy early on can lock in affordable rates. For example, a healthy 30-year-old might secure $500K of 20-year term coverage for around $25-$30 per month. When assessing your needs, subtract your current employer coverage from that 10-12x income target. Having spent years helping clients navigate these decisions, I know how important it is to look beyond the basics to build lasting protection for your family's future. #InsuranceAgent #LifeInsurance #HealthInsurance #AutoInsurance #HoustonInsurance #HoustonCoverage #HoustonLifeInsurance #HoustonAutoInsurance #InsuranceExpertsHouston #TXInsuranceAgent
