I'm not certain it's a refusal to grow up. Humans associate that type of thought process with children. what I've witnessed are humans that reach a socially accepted time frame in life and believe that means they are adults and since they see other adults who believe in this stuff and have been told that these adults have their stuff together, well then it must be true. I swear I do not believe there are many humans they can think any deeper than Maybe the sodium or fat content on their cheeseburger at McDonald's and then they don't even consider where that comes from. I tell my children all the time out of all the creatures in the world, humans are the worst. most of us do not have any desire to own our own DS worse than that they don't care if they are hurting someone and 90% of those people enjoy it. I came from insanely abusive background and that caused me not to believe in some spaghetti monster in the sky from very young age and it put me in a position to sit there and watch humans. humans are crap. I'm a human and I'm sure I do crappy stuff sometimes too but most humans purposely set out to hurt or destroy other humans and animals every single day

While, I believe in the spiritual connectivity of the entire universe I do not believe in entities or deities or hell or heaven or devil or God those are all figment of human imagination created at a time when humans did not have enough scientific information to explain their environment Now there may be “higher” beings that “created “us but to me that seems like maybe we were (people who are older will know what this means) the sea monkeys we used to get you get the catalogues like the Archie comics or other comics and on the back would be the advertisement for sea monkeys I mean, perhaps some higher evolutionary beings saw earth and said to themselves: there’s a habitable planet let’s spread our mitochondria on that planet and just see what happens so we could just be some giant cosmic petri dish floating through space somebody else’s idea of an experiment gone wrong
