I was a dependent marine wife for over a decade. I was in Japan with my children and husband when the 2011 tsunami happened, and they were SO good to us and made sure anyone who needed or wanted to go home was on the first flight out. I am so sad for them

to give you guys contacts as someone who deployed to Bahrain. it was a safe deployment to the point where dependence and families could be stationed with you. how it wasn't considered a deployment for a lot of people it was a duty station, that's how safe that country was before this year

We move around so much. Losing your material things might not sound like a huge deal from those on the outside, but we have no real home, no real friends or family. Many of us collect our memories in the form of trinkets and knickknacks. My vase from Venice, kokeshi dolls from Japan, ceramics from Sicily, ornaments from Germany, the vase my grandmother gave me for my wedding… those are my family’s memories from the past twenty years. They made these families deal with the trauma of losing everything as if it was a faulty wiring job that lead to a house fire. They could have and *should have* gotten these families out before they decided to start at reckless war. As a military family living overseas this is our worst nightmare. Some of those families in Bahrain were made to leave behind their pets too. And before anyone chimes in with a “you chose this”… my husband joined under Obama when things were *kind of* looking up. But here we are because we can’t afford for him to get out.
