Following in the footsteps of the legendary Zonda R, Pagani took the Huayra and freed it from road regulations, creating the most extreme and uncompromising car the Atelier had ever made, built exclusively for circuits and limited to just 30 units at a starting price of 2.6 million euros. The heart of the Huayra R is the Pagani V12-R, a 6.0L naturally aspirated V12 developed from scratch with HWA AG in Germany. There is no turbo and no hybrid system, only pure engine. It produces 850 hp at 8,250 rpm and 750 Nm of torque, revs up to 9,000 rpm and weighs just 198 kg, which Pagani calls the lightest, most powerful and most efficient track-ready V12 ever created. The sound was a priority, with an Inconel exhaust system inspired by Formula 1 designed to turn every gear change into a goosebump moment. Power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential dog-ring gearbox weighing only 80 kg, operated by paddles on the steering wheel. The result is a dry weight of just 1,050 kg, helped by a chrome-molybdenum steel front frame designed for track use, with 16% more torsional rigidity and 51% more flexural rigidity than the road-going Huayra. The aerodynamics were rethought from the ground up. The movable flaps of the road car disappeared, replaced by a large front spoiler lip, side aero flicks and a huge rear wing, aiming for around 1,000 kg of downforce at 320 km/h. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes handle the stopping, and the cockpit places all the key controls within reach even with the harness tightened. Pagani described the Huayra R as a laboratory car, carrying technology for its future models.
