this is taught in churches from James Dobson's teachings. my parents used to beat us for the same reason. of course there were a lot of reasons to get a beating all in the name of discipling to raise a good Christian. religion is abusive

i was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist church and trust me they don't spare the rod I have tmj along with other physical issues from the constant "discipline" and mentally I'm still not healed from the trauma of being raised to be seen and not heard and to obey no matter what is asked of you or you will be disciplined severely all in the name of. Truth: we never punished our kids - nothing. No time outs, god no spanking. They were never in trouble at school or anywhere else. Got good grades. Their teachers loved them and they loved their teachers. They both had part time jobs of their own accord thru high school and college. They're both now gainfully employed and self-supporting and we all love each other immensely.

My father went to a catholic boarding school and the priests would beat them into submission. When I was young, I got spanked hard, many times. Physical iolence was normalizd in the catholic religion back then. I think it is much more unheard of thesedays.
