Something I’m really trying to push for in unit based council is safe transfer times. Too many times I’ve had ER or PACU call for report at 630 when nurse handoff happens at 645. They said they’ve tried to bring this issue up many times but it’s so important! I don’t know why people don’t take is as seriously!

Honestly as a former ER nurse, I get it. I tried to do everything I could for the med surge nurses before sending them up but some days transport would have to take them immediately because a trauma or CPR pt would be flying in so my priorities were changed.

3pm is the sweet spot! morning med pass + charting done, you’re already familiar with your current patients & you still have time to put in orders & assess new patient before shift change 😄

If I am the first to get an admit in the morning then I know I will be getting another admit right at shift change. Happens almost every time.
