@a_mothers_cry: A 14 year old California girl has been safely rescued in Mexico, and her 38 year old father, Sergio Galvez Perez, has been arrested in connection with an investigation involving the sexual abuse and pregnancy of his daughter. Authorities say the girl was rescued by Mexican law enforcement after Monterey County investigators worked with the FBI and Mexican authorities to locate her. Perez was arrested during the operation and was reportedly found in possession of narcotics. The case began after a newborn, referred to by law enforcement as “Baby Angelita,” was found dead along a roadside in northern Monterey County on August 1. Investigators believe the newborn was the child of the 14-year-old girl and Perez. Authorities have said the teenager gave birth while the two were in California, and the infant was later found abandoned along the roadside. As investigators worked to determine what happened, authorities identified Perez as a suspect in the sexual abuse of his daughter. He was wanted on multiple felony allegations, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts involving a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment. The teenager was later reported missing after she was last seen with her father in the Salinas area. An Amber Alert was issued as authorities worked to locate both of them. During the investigation, officials made an important clarification about the teenager’s status. Although earlier reports indicated that authorities were investigating her possible involvement in the newborn’s death, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office emphasized that she is also a victim of her father’s alleged abuse and that no charging decision had been made against her. Authorities ultimately located the girl in Mexico and confirmed that she was safe and in the care of local authorities there. Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto said investigators worked closely with Mexican authorities and the FBI to secure the teenager’s rescue. Perez was taken into custody during the operation. The investigation remains active, and authorities say additional information will be released at a later time. Investigators continue working to determine everything that happened to her newborn and pursue the allegations against her father.
