I went back and looked at Daylen Everette’s game, and honestly, he didn’t play nearly as bad as it looked. He was targeted 6 times and gave up 3 completions for 94 yards with no TDs and had a pass breakup. That’s a 72.2 passer rating against. But here’s the big thing: 60 of those 94 yards came on the busted coverage to Denzel Boston. If you watch the All-22, Everette had the underneath responsibility in Cover 2. The safety, Rayshawn Jenkins, went to the wrong deep half and left Boston wide open. Everette actually chased him down. Take that blown safety assignment out, and Everette gave up 2 catches on 5 targets for only 34 yards, no TDs, with a pass breakup — a 59.6 passer rating against. And remember, Joey Porter Jr. had been working with the first-team defense during the short week before everything changed Wednesday. So Everette, a rookie, got thrown into a much bigger role with very little preparation. For a rookie put in that situation, I actually think he held his own pretty well.
